Economics Applied Statistics and Econometrics opportunities

The Department continually seeks to recruit people with qualifications in Economics, Applied Statistics and Econometrics to its National Office in Canberra to increase its capacity in these areas.

Activities undertaken in the department's research unit include:

High quality data analysis

Analyse and assess the impact of government programmes and policies through the use of:

  • sophisticated statistical modelling including regression analysis
  • longitudinal analysis of administrative data
  • survey design.

Evaluations

Undertake both small and large scale evaluations using a range of leading edge techniques including:

  • net impact analysis and best practice studies using quantitative and qualitative techniques.

Psychological research

Research attitudes and behaviours in relation to:

  • job seekers' wellbeing
  • job search motivation and behaviour
  • the design of programmes targeted to clients with special needs.

The unit in which you will be employed operates within a focused, harmonious and co-operative environment, with a commitment to skill sharing and development and productive team earning, to produce high quality research and analysis.

You will gain valuable experience through working in multi-disciplinary teams including other researchers, programme managers and policy officers.

The department's administrative data on benefit recipients and programme participants are unequalled at any level of government in Australia. These data are at the unit record level and in some areas longitudinal in nature.
