The Local Recovery Fund is available in 51 Employment Regions (regions).

The Local Recovery Fund supports locally driven activities that:

  • meet priorities identified in the region’s Local Jobs Plan
  • are tailored to the opportunities and needs identified in the region
  • address employment and training priorities; and
  • skill individuals to meet local employer demand.

Local Recovery Fund activities are usually sought via a Request for Proposal procurement process. If you are interested in developing a Local Recovery Fund proposal, contact your local Employment Facilitator.

The Trustee for Career Co Australia Trading Trust

This activity was co-designed to improve each participant's fitness to work and reduce this as a barrier to employment. Entry-level roles within industry minimum standards created opportunities for participants to enter the workforce. Participants experienced improved health, strength and fitness, weight loss, and improved mental health (e.g. confidence and motivation). A reduction in positive drug tests was also evidenced. Participants also developed and improved social and communication skills which assisted them to find sustainable employment and commencing further training.

A pre-employment program blending youth-oriented activities including box-fit class "Gloves" (combination of physical exercise through boxing) and/or video gaming. Participants received training on job search skills, resume preparation, job applications and interview preparation through the use of videogaming delivery strategies.

The activity also provided local employers with a pool of trained and work ready candidates.

Indigenous Employment Integration Program

The activity was delivered to support Indigenous participants with the goal for 80% of participants to complete the program, which included an employment integration program, placement with a host employer and mentoring with access to a Spiritual Healer.

Industry Advisory Network

The activity involved engaging with at least twelve key employers in the region to create a network, map the recruitment needs of employers from different industry sectors and identified skills needed in the region that were not available within the existing caseload.

Jobs 4 Locals

This activity was tailored to the specific needs of employers and participants to reflect local demands in Care & Support, Civil & Mining, Construction & Fabrication industries. Participants gained accredited skills (in Resources & Infrastructure, and Care & Support) and work preparation, time management, improving confidence, personal hygiene and communication skills. Support for participants also included addressing other barriers to employment including numeracy and literacy and family and relationship issues. On completion, some participants gained full time employment and others commenced further training.
