What is Digital Identity (through myGovID)?
From February 2022, the department commenced rolling out Digital Identity (myGovID) authentication for ESS Web, as part of the whole-of-government Digital Transformation Strategy.
Digital Identity is a safe, secure and convenient way to prove who you are online and can be used to access online government services.
More than 6 million business users are already using Digital Identity to access over 80 government services. Over 4,000 employers are also using Digital Identity (myGovID) to advertise job vacancies on our Workforce Australia website.
The department has now transitioned to Digital Identity (myGovID) for all existing employment services providers and their staff who use the Employment Services System (ESS).
As such, all employment service provider staff needing access to ESSWeb must have their own Digital Identity (currently a myGovID).
It is highly recommended individuals get their Digital Identity as soon as they know one is needed to minimise any possible delays, for example where an individual does not have the necessary identity documentation.

How to get a Digital Identity
All employment services provider staff who access ESS Web and associated DESE systems will need to get a Digital Identity (myGovID).
The Australian Government’s Digital Identity provider is myGovID, which is administered by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). You will need a Standard strength Digital Identity which allows access to most participating online government services.
