This project was developed in consultation with the organisation's management to enhance the language, literacy and digital literacy skills of three subgroups of humanitarian support workers; bilingual guides, case managers and orientation trainers. These workers were identified as at risk of not providing the best possible settlement outcomes for clients and stakeholders due to reading, writing, oral communication and digital skill deficits.

The project targeted employees primarily from the parks, gardens, ranger and outdoor labourer sections. These “outdoor workers” work out and about in the council area, and were required to complete their work tasks from these remote environments. The outdoor worker's job required them to be self-sufficient with the use of digital devices – both in their digital navigation, and their reading and writing skills.

Anglicare Townsville Upskilling Project

This project allowed Anglicare Townsville to upskill their team of 80 staff. All 80 staff required digital literacy training for the ongoing use of SumTotal - a learning management system platform. Anglicare Townsville identified a gap in the quality of care notes provided by support & home care workers which was exacerbated by the limited digital technology skills of this cohort of staff who were required to use Samsung mobile phones and laptops to access client notes, care plans, individual rosters, submit time sheets and report on daily observations.
