This activity provided foundation skills training to prepare participants for industry trades assistant roles. Participants were youth, Indigenous, mature aged, people with disability and long-term unemployed. On completion participants showed increased confidence and gained transferable skills applicable to various industries. Some participants obtained driver licenses (car, truck, forklift) and plan to continue further training.

The activity supported First Nations participants with culturally based employment preparation and soft skills to enhance their social and emotional wellbeing, and addressed individual barriers to employment through a community co-designed approach. Participants reported feeling empowered, with 85% stating that the program increased their confidence to engage in employment or further training. A large proportion highlighted the importance of being supported by First Nations facilitators who understood their lived experiences. The program fostered strong cultural safety, with yarning circles and Elders’ involvement enabling deep cultural connection and trust. These outcomes demonstrate the importance of community-led, culturally responsive programs that prioritise self-determination, healing, and holistic support.
