If you successfully complete the project, and have consistently shown the values and attributes that Ai Group and the host organisations are looking for, you could start employment as early as Monday, 1 July 2024.

Roles:

  • 10 mechanical and manufacturing apprenticeships with various host organisations in Campbellfield, Derrimut, Epping, Essendon Fields, Ravenhall, Thornbury, Truganina, Sunshine, Sunshine North and Williamstown North. Refer job descriptions below.
  • Roles are permanent full-time apprenticeships (37.5 - 38 hours per week). They vary between 3 and 4 years depending on the apprenticeship qualification that is being completed.
  • Pay rates range from $13.09 - $24.54 per hour depending on your age, level of schooling, and the specific apprenticeship.

The employer is looking for people who:

  • are keen, enthusiastic and genuinely interested in the roles available,
  • have good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise conflicting tasks, and
  • are reliable and punctual.

Prerequisites are:

  • must be 18 years of age or older,
  • must be registered with a Workforce Australia Services, Transition to Work or ParentsNext provider,
  • must be able to pass a pre-employment medical (vision, lung function and functional capacity testing, and drug and alcohol screening),
  • must have a minimum of level 3 language, literacy and numeracy skills - this is a requirement to commence the apprenticeship qualifications, and
  • must have a good understanding of mathematical and mechanical reasoning.

Project activities

  • Life and workplace skills training tailored to the roles.
  • Job shadowing/observation in the workplace where you will commence your apprenticeship.
  • Mentoring to support you during the project and when you commence in employment.

Automotive heavy body builder apprentice (4 years)

Qualification: Certificate III in Automotive Manufacturing Technical Operations – Bus, Truck and Trailer.

  • prepare and operate tools, equipment, and machinery
  • monitor and maintain automotive equipment
  • read and interpret work orders and work drawings
  • perform basic welding, thermal cutting, heating, and gouging
  • perform mechanical cutting.

Location: Williamstown North

Hydraulic fitter apprentice (4 years)

Qualification: Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade

  • examining and understanding detailed drawings and specifications to determine the requirements for the task.
  • operate and adjust metalworking machines to create parts or tools by turning, boring, milling, shaping, slotting, grinding, or drilling metal stock or components.
  • using hand and machine tools, welding equipment, and CNC machines
  • cut, thread, bend, and install hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines.
  • ensure accuracy and quality of finished parts, tools, or sub-assemblies.
  • operating lathes, machining centres, sheet metal folders, and benders
  • wide variety of welding practices including MIG, TIG, and Stick welding.
