As an early school leaver and a young mum, Chelsea was finding being a new parent challenging when she first started Parents Next.

Chelsea was managing personal issues and the effects of COVID-19 and her goal was to overcome these challenges and get her career started. As a first step, Chelsea’s Parents Next consultant from AXIS Employment put her in touch with a health care provider in the area. When Chelsea was ready, her consultant helped with job search activities like setting career goals, updating her resume and interview preparation.

Chelsea’s consultant approached WestVic Staffing Solutions, a local apprenticeship and trainee provider. WestVic Staffing Solutions helped Chelsea apply for a full-time traineeship as a Customer Services Officer with a local bank. Chelsea also successfully completed a Certificate III in Business. After 4 years in the program Chelsea was offered a part-time position with the Bendigo Bank. Her consultant used the Participation Fund to buy her work clothing.

In the early stages of employment, Chelsea’s consultant kept in touch with her to ensure she felt supported in the transition into work. Chelsea is enjoying the part-time role as it is a good balance with her parenting responsibilities and allows her to be a role model to her child.
