With the help of her ParentsNext provider CVGT, Bronwen found an apprenticeship at a local mechanic.
When she joined ParentsNext, Bronwen had been a stay-at-home-mum since she was 17 but had always had a passion for fixing cars. Although Bronwen was initially apprehensive about the program, her consultant Tracy from CVGT, helped her build confidence so she was ready to take the next steps towards her goals.
Tracy helped Bronwen write a resumé, which helped her find an apprenticeship with Graeme Nelson Motors. Using the ParentsNext Participation Fund, Tracy helped Bronwen with financial support to purchase a laptop for study, and work attire like safety boots for her new job.
Bronwen is determined to finish her apprenticeship to become a qualified mechanic.
ParentsNext supports parents and carers who receive Parenting Payment to plan and prepare for work by the time their youngest child starts school.
Support can include help with:
- developing skills
- accessing training or work experience
- arranging financial support for training, licenses and other study or work-related expenses; and
- connecting to local support services such as counselling, child care and other community services.
