The activity involved providing intensive ‘wrap around’ support and employment preparatory training to support Indigenous participants from the local community in the North West Coast of Tasmania. The activity assisted participants to obtain work experience and employment with culturally supportive workplaces and included education and tailored post-placement support. The cultural competency of local employers was also improved through their engagement with this activity.

The program provided participants with cultural and wellbeing residentials, work-like experience, and accredited project management training over a five-month period. The activity aimed to place a minimum of 10 people into employment. The program also engaged with industry partners in the Aboriginal art, hospitality and tourism sectors, and Aboriginal Elders/Knowledge keepers in the activity co-design.

The program benefited employers by connecting them to a broader pool of labour, and participants were supported to explore their strengths and interests in specific workplaces and opportunities.

Technology Skills in the Workplace Program

The activity was delivered to assist participants enhance their employability skills in a real-world context and provided opportunities to meet with employers and working professionals. On completion, participants were expected to speak confidently about a real-world business or community-focused project that they helped design and deliver as part of a small team. Additionally, participants learnt and practiced a range of work-readiness skills, including professional communication, project management, and workplace digital literacy.

The activity delivered targeted hospitality training to participants, focussing on entry-level skills for housekeeping and front of house positions. Participants with no hospitality experience were supported to gain employment in the sector, including those returning to the workforce, migrants and young people who were reluctant to enter the sector. Participants were partnered with a hospitality mentor to support them and their employer to overcome any barriers or issues in the first 3 months of employment. The activity aimed to place participants into employment and improve technical skills required for entry level roles in hospitality.
The Glenorchy Aged Care Language and Literacy Preparation and Pathways Project

The activity involved the provision of language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills training to prepare job seekers for a career in the aged care industry. The activity was delivered over 20 weeks and included weekly industry exposure experiences, a work-like environment for training, and one-on-one support, which enabled participants to successfully apply for and enrol in the Certificate III in Individual Support.

This activity aimed to improve the skills and knowledge of participants for call centre and other customer-related roles and provided pathways to employment. The activity delivered a 2-day non-accredited training course in Superior Customer Service and Professional Telephone Techniques.
