Update to the VET Student Loans Course List
The list of courses approved for VET Student Loans (VSL) has been updated. The changes to the VET Student Loans (Courses and Loan Caps) Determination 2016 (Determination) have been agreed to by the Hon Andrew Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training. They took effect from 1 January 2026 and are being progressively implemented into HITS and eCAF.
The Determination is updated to ensure that courses approved for VSL retain currency, reflect industry and workforce needs, and that loan caps remain sufficient to provide for the course cost for most full fee-paying students. Courses are added to Schedule 1 of the Determination if they are current and are:
- a science, technology, engineering, agriculture or mathematic (STEM) course or
- subsidised by at least two state and territories or
- required for occupational regulation or licensing.
Courses on Schedule 3 are added upon successful application by listed or not-for-profit providers.
The update to the Determination:
- adds 6 courses that newly meet VSL eligibility criteria
- adds 25 courses that are replacement courses for currently approved courses,
- removes 43 courses that are non-current and have an expired teach-out.
No current courses have been removed from the Determination.
Details about these changes are available at VET Student Loans (Courses and Loan Caps) Amendment Determination 2025. The consolidated Determination incorporating these changes, is expected to be available shortly at VET Student Loans (Courses and Loan Caps) Determination 2016.
