Norfolk Island Employment Support Program

From 1 July 2025, the government will introduce the Norfolk Island Employment Support Program that will be providing Norfolk Islanders streamlined support for employment, disability employment and vocational education and training (VET).

The program provides an early demonstration of the government’s commitment to introducing employment reforms which are place-based; designed for specific communities, with unique circumstances and labour markets, as recommended in the Rebuilding Employment Services Report.

The Norfolk Island Employment Support Program will consolidate services and supports currently delivered through the Employment Services (Norfolk Island), Disability Employment Services (DES), and VET Assistance Financial Assistant Initiative into a single new program. The new program will be delivered by a locally based organisation and is specifically designed to strengthen local support for Norfolk Islanders with employment needs including those with a disability, parents, mature-aged, youth and long-term unemployed.

Additionally, the program will offer tailored assistance to local employers, helping them identify and meet workforce needs, implement inclusive employment practices and identify employment opportunities, including creating or tailoring roles where needed, such as for individuals with a disability.
