Targeted Compliance Framework compensation process

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (the department) has identified some examples where systems and processes were not operating in alignment with the law and policies. This resulted in some people having their income support payment cancelled incorrectly.

On this page:

Payment cancellation decisions can have a profound impact on people. Where these decisions have adversely impacted people, compensation may be available.

The department will soon begin inviting people to submit a claim for compensation.

These invitations will be sent over the next few months, to ensure we can respond efficiently to people who submit claims.

The department has been working closely with Services Australia to identify those people who may have been adversely impacted.

At this this stage, you do not need to do anything. If you are impacted by one or more of these cancellations and may be eligible for compensation, the department will contact you and provide you with information on how to make a claim for compensation.

If you are invited to claim for compensation, you will be sent correspondence and instructions on how to submit an application form. Information will also be available on the department’s website.

The department will provide further information when the compensation process commences.

Compensation will be made under the Scheme for Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration (CDDA scheme), underpinned by clear principles to guide our process.

Further information and updates on the department’s actions will be provided at Assuring the integrity of the Targeted Compliance Framework.
