Through the National Skills Agreement (NSA), the Australian Government has partnered with states and territories to strengthen capability and grow the vocational education and training (VET) teaching workforce to support high-quality education and training nationally.
On this page:
The Measures to Strengthen the VET Workforce initiative was established as part of the NSA to support attraction, retention, capability development and workforce sustainability across the VET sector.
Recognising that each state and territory faces different VET workforce challenges and opportunities, activities are tailored to local needs and build on approaches that have been effective within each jurisdiction, including:
- promotion strategies
- workforce frameworks
- localised and bespoke First Nations VET workforce strategies
- responding to challenges through increased industry involvement
- scaling up and/or piloting innovative VET workforce pathways
- professional learning development initiatives.
This work aims to build a skilled and experienced VET workforce that can respond to current and emerging skills needs.
The Australian Government has worked collaboratively with each state and territory to agree on the suite of activities across each jurisdiction. Further detail is available in the implementation plans published on the Federal Financial Relations (FFR) website.
Another key element of the NSA is the establishment of the National TAFE Network, which will foster collaboration between TAFE teachers, administrators and public training providers to develop curriculum resources, improve teaching and learning, and enhance the status of TAFE. Through the Network, TAFEs across jurisdictions work together to deliver nation-leading outcomes for learners, industry, and communities.
