Work Ready Parents

Work Ready Parents is a free online pre-employment service that helps parents prepare for education, training or employment.

On this page:

The service provides personalised support to eligible parents of children under 18 years who are not currently in paid employment.

Parents can learn online at a time that suits them. They can access coaching, workshops, resume help, practical resources and networking opportunities to build confidence and get ready for work.

Who is Work Ready Parents for?

Work Ready Parents is for parents who are:

  • aged 18 years or over
  • a primary carer of a child aged under 18 years; and
  • not in paid employment or self-employment; and
  • living in Australia and an Australian citizen or Australian resident or a visa holder with the right to work in Australia.

Parents participating in Workforce Australia or Parent Pathways are also eligible for Work Ready Parents.

Participants need access to an internet-connected device to take part.

What support is available?

Work Ready Parents offers online resources, activities and support to help parents prepare for work. The service helps parents identify their strengths, build confidence and develop the skills needed to take the next step towards work, education or training.

Support available through the service may include:

  • self-guided online learning
  • podcasts
  • resume and interview preparation assistance
  • group coaching and workshops
  • connections to employers and training providers, including online jobs and skills events
  • access to peer support and online communities.

The service is delivered over 12 months, allowing participants to access support at a pace that suits their circumstances and family responsibilities.

Work Ready Parents is a completely voluntary service. Participation in Work Ready Parents will not meet mutual obligation requirements or count towards a participant's points target if they have one.

How the service works

Work Ready Parents is a 2-year trial running until October 2028 and supporting up to 2,700 parents. What we learn during the trial will help the Australian Government better understand how online support can help parents prepare for and return to education, training or employment.

This service is free, flexible and delivered entirely online. Participants can access online resources, group coaching sessions, workshops and events from anywhere in Australia. The service is designed to fit around family and caring responsibilities.

Participants can choose the learning and support best suited to their needs and goals. Many resources are available on demand. Live online activities will also help parents build skills, connect with employers and hear from experienced professionals.

How to participate

Work Ready Parents is delivered by FW Jobs Academy and places are limited.
