Providing a national focus on asbestos issues which go beyond workplace safety to encompass environmental and public health issues.
The Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency provides a national focus on asbestos issues which goes beyond workplace safety to encompass environmental and public health issues.
The agency was created on 1 July 2013 to develop the National Strategic Plan for Asbestos Management and Awareness as well as coordinate, monitor and report on the implementation of this plan.
The 2023-24 Budget provided $4.2 million to expand ASEA's role to address the rise of silicosis and silica-related diseases. Amendments to the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency Act 2013, are underway to give effect to the budget measure.
The Agency also manages the National Asbestos Exposure Register. If you believe you have been exposed to asbestos-containing materials, you can register your details by completing the online registration form on the bottom of the National Asbestos Exposure Register page.
If you cannot complete the online registration form, please email the address provided to request an electronic form to fill out and return to the agency by the same email address.
