Megan wanted a career in a high-demand, future-proof industry, and information technology ticked all the boxes.
The Australian Government is working to strengthen the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system, to allow more students like Megan to earn while they learn and develop their skills in the digital technology sector.
Future of Female Leadership Forum
In her high school years Megan Cox had no doubt she wanted a career in information technology. Following her passion Megan attended a science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) conference.
“I was enthralled when I listened to speakers at the ‘Future of Female Leadership Forum’. Speakers included female cyber security specialists, lawyers and other digital technologists addressing how crucial STEM and technical skills are,” said Megan.
The conference was a catalyst for Megan’s further research into how information technology could be a gateway to a promising and interesting future, and for her to achieve her career goals.
“Information technology is a dynamic and ever-evolving industry. It can lead to diverse opportunities across high-demand sectors such as cyber security, cloud computing, programming, and data management.”
Nationally accredited VET Information Technology qualifications
With a firm plan in mind, Megan completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Information Technology while working as an Assurance Associate at one of the big four consulting firms.
“Using my transferrable skills, I was able to move into recruitment as a Human Resources Coordinator at a large Pay TV group,” said Megan.
AI enables fulfilling HR programs
With a love of emerging technologies, Megan embraced the opportunity to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) in her HR role.
“In HR there is a lot of time-consuming data and analytics work, problem solving and reporting. Technologies like AI free up many hours of laborious work to focus on gratifying and essential communication and stakeholder management programs.”
Future career plans
Megan is now looking to further develop her skillset within the world of sports.
“I now aim to make my mark in the sporting sector, focusing on operational roles, where I can further develop and apply my information technology skills,” Megan concludes.
The Australian Government’s investment in the VET system through the National Skills Agreement is supporting more Australians to achieve success like Megan’s and providing the skills Australia needs now and for the future.
