Resources to support VET students with disability
The Australian Disability Clearinghouse for Education and Training was engaged to research and consult with the VET and disability sectors to develop a comprehensive range of resources to assist small to medium RTOs to be more inclusive of people with disability and mental health conditions.
These resources include practice guides, practice illustrations, templates and supporting resources across topics such as pre-enrolment, enrolment, transition from school, reasonable adjustments, participation and accessibility, progress and completion and practice improvement and reflection.

Resources to support students’ mental health and wellbeing
These resources have been developed to build the capacity of RTOs to support student mental health and wellbeing in the VET sector. The resources provide helpful information and guidance to support conversations and provide referrals and information for students.
E-learning modules and case studies
E-learning modules and case studies have been developed to help RTO staff and educators to support VET students with disability.
E-learning modules
The Australian Disability Clearinghouse for Education and Training (ADCET) was engaged to refine its existing e-learning programs. This free training has both modules for RTO educators and staff.
The first program, VET Staff Supporting Students with Disability, is designed specifically for staff who work in the VET Sector and focuses on promoting awareness about the rights of students with disability, the needs and requirements of students, and responsibilities of registered training organisations.
The second program, VET Educators Supporting Students with Disability is designed specifically for VET Educators and focuses on promoting a range of practices such as universal design for learning and reasonable adjustments, to support the development and implementation of inclusive delivery and assessment strategies, responsive to the needs and requirements of students with disability.

Case studies
Case studies were developed to show exemplary disability inclusion practices across the VET sector to support RTOs in meeting the revised 2025 RTO Standards.
ADCET was engaged to identify and document these case studies. A total of 15 case studies from around Australia were developed and are available on the ADCET website: Good Practice Case Studies | ADCET.
Resource to support assessment of students' foundation skills
The Principles to Guide Foundation Skills Assessment, developed under the National Foundation Skills Strategy 2025–2035, provide good practice guidance to support a nationally consistent approach to assessing prospective learners’ foundation skills prior to enrolment in training.
The principles are designed to be used flexibly across adult and community education (ACE) and VET settings and can be applied to different types of foundation skills assessments, including identifying learners’ foundation skills capabilities, suitability for training, and support needs. The principles are intended to promote good practice and do not replace existing assessment processes or regulatory requirements.
