Hannah’s small business journey: Inspiring others to create their own path to success

Breaking barriers, how one artist is redefining inclusion through creativity.

For as long as she can remember, art has been Hannah’s way of exploring her individuality and self-expression. Turning that passion into a business (Firenight Designs) felt like a natural next step, and a powerful opportunity to promote inclusivity in the fashion industry.

As a disabled business owner, Hannah’s mission goes beyond creating beautiful illustrations. She’s committed to promoting diversity and representation, believing that fashion and art should be for everyone.

“Representation matters because it empowers others to chase their dreams and helps break down stigmas,” Hannah explains. “Disabled people belong in every space, as artists, business owners and leaders.”

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. Living with an invisible disability has meant facing misconceptions and workplaces that failed to accommodate her needs. “I worried I wouldn’t be good enough because of the adjustments I needed,” she admits.

Building confidence with Self-Employment Assistance

Through Workforce Australia’s Self-Employment Assistance Provider, the Australian School of Employment, Hannah found the support and flexibility to grow her business. Monthly mentoring sessions with her coach provided practical advice and encouragement, helping her reframe her disability as part of her identity rather than a barrier.

What’s next?

Hannah is now focused on refining her business model and sharing more of her story to inspire others. “Inclusion isn’t performative, it’s about lasting change,” she says. “I want to see a world where differences are celebrated and accessibility is a priority every day, not just on International Day of People with Disability.

By sharing her story, Hannah hopes to spark conversations that lead to real change and encourage others to embrace diversity as a strength.
