From Vision to Viability: How Self-Employment Assistance helped Rhubee build a business with heart.
Rhubee transformed her passion for art into a thriving business through Workforce Australia’s
Self-Employment Assistance, delivered through Auctus Training Institute. Today, she runs Desert Rhubee’s Creation, sharing her vibrant works with the world and inspiring others along the way.
Meet Rhubee
A proud Anmatyerre and Arrernte woman from Central Australia, Rhubee’s art celebrates culture, connection and healing.
“My business, Desert Rhubee’s Creation, comes from my heart and from my vision to paint away my trauma,” Ruby shared.
Her dream was clear – to create a business that reflects her creativity and brings joy to others.
Turning creativity into opportunity
Self-Employment Assistance gave Rhubee the confidence and practical skills to turn her vision into a sustainable enterprise. She learned how to manage her time effectively, plan strategically, and communicate her story in ways that connect with customers.
"I discovered the program while looking for business support, and I was deeply moved by the encouragement I received," Rhubee said.
"The team listened, encouraged, and supported me every step of the way with genuine care and respect."
Through tailored training and coaching, Rhubee gained essential business knowledge and tools to build a strong foundation for her business.
"I've learned patience, resilience, and the importance of believing in my own worth - not just as an artist, but as a strong businesswoman," she said.
Building a future through art
With the skills gained through Self-Employment Assistance, Rhubee launched her art business and grew her presence in the art world. She has showcased her work at exhibitions, collaborated on large-scale murals, and participated in major indigenous art events. Her next chapter includes expanding her brand into a clothing label, bringing her vibrant designs to an even wider audience.
"Programs like this are so important for all emerging business owners, especially First Nation artists who are turning their passion into enterprise. It's not just about learning business skills - it's about empowerment, healing and creating something that gives back to community," Rhubee said.
