An independent review of the Federal Safety Commissioner.
On this page:
In May 2023, the Australian Government engaged Ms Marie Boland to conduct the Independent Review of the Federal Safety Commissioner. The Review aimed to evaluate the Commissioner’s effectiveness and examined the merits of adopting a similar approach in other areas of Government procurement.
As part of the Review, formal consultations with stakeholders occurred from May 2023 and a public Discussion Paper guided consultations in July 2023. Submissions to the Discussion Paper and responses to a short survey were open throughout July 2023. Public consultations ceased on 7 August 2023. A Consultation Summary is available reflecting the issues raised by stakeholders in consultations, submissions, and survey responses. The final report has since been finalised and provided to the Government.
The Federal Safety Commissioner was established in 2005 to improve the safety culture of the building and construction industry. The Commissioner is responsible for enhancing and monitoring safety in the industry through the development, administration and promotion of the WHS Accreditation Scheme.
The Government is currently considering the Review’s Final Report. Timeframes for publication of the Final Report are a matter for Government.
