As a mum of two, Emma was ready for a new direction that supported both her family and her future. Through Parent Pathways, she found the support and confidence she needed. Now Emma is giving back as a mentor, supporting other parents to achieve their goals.
A fresh start
After more than 10 years working in childcare, Emma knew she had a passion for helping people. But like many parents thinking about their future, she wasn’t sure what her next step should be. After discovering Parent Pathways online, she connected with her local provider, and began working with her mentor, Reema. Together, they explored her strengths, interests, and possible future career goals. From the beginning, Reema could see Emma’s motivation, curiosity and natural ability to connect with others.
“When I first met Emma, she presented as an extremely motivated and engaging individual. A strong sense of pride and accomplishment, and a deep curiosity was apparent.” – Reema, Parent Pathways mentor
Finding confidence through support
Through Parent Pathways, Emma received personalised mentoring, funding to complete a Certificate III in Community Services and practical help to ease some of the pressures of everyday life. As she progressed, Emma began to reconnect with her passion for supporting others.
With encouragement from her mentors, she started to see her own experience, warmth and determination as strengths. When a Parent Pathways mentor role became available at her local provider, she was encouraged to apply.
“Without the support and encouragement from my mentors, I don’t think I would have stepped outside my comfort zone and gone for it.” – Emma
A full circle moment
Taking that first step changed everything. Today, Emma works as a Parent Pathways mentor, supporting other parents as they navigate their own goals, challenges and hopes for the future. For Emma, becoming a mentor has meant more than starting a new role. It is an opportunity to support others in the same way she was supported.
“I get to walk alongside other participants, just like I was, and support them to achieve their own goals.” – Emma
Her former mentor, Reema, says Emma’s journey shows the impact tailored support can have.
“I’ve been blown away by how naturally Emma has stepped into the role. She’s a wonderful example of how tailored support can truly change someone’s life.” – Reema, Parent Pathways mentor
For Emma, the journey from participant to mentor has been a powerful reminder of what can happen when someone is supported to believe in themselves.
“It’s been a full circle moment, and I’m so grateful I took that first step.” – Emma
