From hobby to hustle: Taylah’s journey to small business success

Self-Employment Assistance – Helping small business owners to build confidence and expand – Meet Taylah

With mentoring and support, Talyah turned her creative idea into 2 successful businesses.

Taylah had a passion for creating and designing candles.

Through Workforce Australia Self-Employment Assistance provider, Australian School of Employment, Taylah found Self-Employment Assistance.

Turning a passion into a business

The structure and encouragement provided by Self-Employment Assistance gave her the push to turn her passion for candles into a business (LoveTay Candles).

“The Self-Employment Assistance program gave me the tools and support I needed to actually turn my idea into a business. I didn’t know where to start, but the mentoring and group coaching helped me feel more confident and clearer about what I wanted to do,” Taylah said.

Support and mentoring through the program

“I felt really supported, like I wasn’t doing this alone. It was so helpful to be surrounded by other people building businesses too, especially at the networking events and coaching sessions.”

In addition to one-on-one mentoring and help developing her business plan, Taylah regularly took part in group coaching sessions and attended several networking events through the program. These sessions not only built her confidence, but also connected her with other small business owners, opening the door to new ideas, collaboration and potential customers.

Expanding the business

Taylah took what she learned through her experience and decided to grow her ventures.

“The program didn’t just help me with my candles, it helped me create a second business, LoveTay Gifting, which I would have never imagined doing at the start!” Taylah said.

Taylah’s story is a great example of how Self-Employment Assistance can support emerging entrepreneurs to turn a creative idea into a sustainable business. The way she took full advantage of the support offered displays the power of proactive engagement.

Taylah has become a role model in her local community, and her story continues to inspire others who are thinking about starting their own business journey.
