Positive feedback gave Jarron the confidence to start his own business.

For Jarron gardening was always a passion, but the idea of making it a career felt overwhelming. Struggling with depression, he wasn’t sure if he could run his own business. However, with determination, support and the right opportunities, Jarron built his business (Jazz up your Garden) into a thriving enterprise – gaining confidence and recognition along the way.

Finding confidence in Self-Employment

Jarron started small, working with experienced horticulturalist and landscaping companies. As he earned new skills and certifications, he began considering self-employment more seriously. The turning point came when positive feedback from clients encouraged him to take the next step.

Through Workforce Australia Self-Employment Assistance provider Auctus, Jarron received mentorship and guidance that helped him develop key business and communication skills. “The Self-Employment Assistance program helped me build my confidence which is something I have lacked,” Jarron said.

Growing reputation and expanding opportunities

As Jarron’s business grew, so did his reputation. His expertise led to a feature on 5AA radio with Michael Keelan, giving him a chance to share his knowledge with a wider audience. “I think being on 5AA with Michael Keelan, helped my confidence,” he said.

Beyond professional success, self-employment also improved Jarron’s mental health. “I struggled with depression but since starting my business and being outdoors doing what I love, I get amazing feedback every day,” he explained.

Looking ahead: passion, growth and giving back

Now, Jarron is focused on growing his business and sharing his love of gardening.

“I treat my clients’ gardens like my own and I love designing and looking after topiary. I am very well-known now and feel famous which is an achievement! I struggled through school, but I am so proud of how far I have come.”

Jarron’s advice to aspiring business owners “never stop believing in yourself!”

Jarron’s journey proves that with determination, the right support and self-belief, turning a passion into a successful business is possible.
