The face-to-face candidate information session will take place at Kangan Institute, Broadmeadows Vic, on Wednesday 28 January 2026 from 10 am to 11:30 am (AEDT).

Candidates who want to participate in the project will be asked to:

  • submit a written expression of interest at the end of the information session on Wednesday 28 January 2026
  • participate in an Activity Centre on Wednesday 11 February 2026.

Job description

The employer is looking for people who:

  • are 18 years or older
  • have good verbal and written communication
  • understand human rights and person-centred care, and can treat people from diverse backgrounds and differing abilities with respect and dignity
  • are passionate about supporting people with a disability and/or aged care clients within professional boundaries
  • can work individually and within a team while following policies and procedures of the employer
  • are flexible and have an adaptable mindset to undertake all tasks listed in the core duties of the specific role
  • are available and prepared to undertake reasonable overtime when requested to meet client care needs in an emergency
  • are committed to ongoing learning.

Prerequisites required:

  • 100 points of identification (e.g., birth certificate, current Australian passport, current driver’s licence)
  • Satisfactory national police check
  • Satisfactory National Disability Insurance Scheme worker screening check
  • Satisfactory Working with Children check
  • Current driver’s licence (full licence, red P’s or green P’s) and where a car is available, current comprehensive insurance and registration
  • Adequate language, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Physically fit and can stand for long periods of time.

RolesHomecare Support Worker
Type of employmentCasual with a minimum of 15 hrs per week
Duties

The Home Care Support Worker role involves personal care, domestic assistance and social support. Personal care includes assisting clients with their personal needs (e.g. hygiene needs), maintaining their hydration and nutrition (e.g. food preparation), administering medication, support with walking and transfers, and ensuring they remain clean and comfortable.

Domestic assistance includes performing light housekeeping, laundry, shopping, transport for client and assisting with celebrations. Social support includes assisting the client with emotional, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs by encouraging and supporting the client’s independence, interests, needs and rights. The role involves monitoring any changes in clients’ needs.

RolesDisability Support Worker in training
Type of employmentPermanent part-time with a minimum of 24 hrs per week
DutiesThe Disability Support Worker in training role is responsible for providing person centred care and support, domestic and community support to allocated clients. This care is directed by individualised care plans, their identified life goals and required house related tasks. Support may be provided in a residential home, in the community, or in a home.

Duties

The Disability Support Worker’s role is responsible for assisting clients with household tasks, self-care activities (e.g., shopping, shower, medication administration), access to community, social and recreational activities, skill development, employment supports, any education and training goals.

This includes supporting and encouraging clients to achieve goals, exercise choice and control, learn and build capability, and live independently as much as possible. This is completed by developing strategies with the client and close family, creating activities, and collaborating with Disability Talk on shifts, documentation and reporting.

Duration: 4 weeks
Project location: Training is at Kangan Institute and practical workplace activities are in the Western, Northern and Inner regions of Melbourne.

Project start date: Monday 2 March 2026
Face-to-face candidate information session date: Wednesday 28 January 2026 from 10 am to 11:30 am (AEDT).
Activities Centre: Wednesday 11 February 2026 from 10 am to 3 pm (further details will be provided at the candidate information session)

Project activities

  • Life and workplace skills training tailored to the role
  • Accredited training in first aid and CPR, safe work practices for direct client care, communicating and working in health services, and individualised support
  • Additional training covering the core learnings of food safety, infection prevention and control, and working with diverse people
  • Site tours and job shadowing shifts at employer sites
  • Mentoring to support your success during the project and when you commence in employment.
