With a background in hospitality and cleaning, Sharon wanted to return to work but needed to refresh her skills and navigate the job market. Through the Employability Skills Training (EST) program, she received guidance that helped her move steadily into employment aligned with her interests.
Taking the first step
After time away from the workforce, Sharon found it challenging to secure employment. EST provided practical support to build her skills, confidence and approach to finding work.
Building skills and direction
Through EST, Sharon built practical job search skills. She improved her digital skills, updated her resume and cover letter, refreshed her online job profile, and received hands-on support applying for roles. Sharon also practised interview skills through mock interviews with her trainer, helping her better understand recruitment processes and employer expectations.
Moving into work
After completing EST, Sharon secured a role as a kitchen hand, providing an important step back into employment. With increased confidence from working and the knowledge she gained from the EST course, Sharon started applying for jobs in the caring sector. This led to another positive step forward, and she is now working in a role that is rewarding and utilises her skills.
Finding stability and purpose
Over time, Sharon’s reliability and commitment led to an increase in hours and a transition into full time employment. She now reflects positively on her progress and shared that she was enjoying her role and feeling settled in her routine.
Sharon’s journey shows how practical skills, tailored guidance and support through EST can help participants move step by step into sustainable employment that suit their goals.
