Consultation on potential Commonwealth standards for the construction industry now open

The Australian Government is inviting feedback on Commonwealth standards aimed at improving performance and strengthening expectations across the construction sector.

Feedback is being sought to ensure any construction standards are focused on areas where they will have the greatest impact, while avoiding unnecessary regulatory or administrative burden.

Stakeholders are encouraged to review the discussion paper and provide feedback on whether construction standards could support lawful conduct, productivity, workforce development and safe, secure and well-paid jobs in the construction industry. The discussion paper is available to support submissions and guide consultation responses.

Submissions are now open and will close at 11:59pm AEST on 16 October 2026.

To learn more about the consultation, view the discussion paper and make a submission, visit the department's Consultation Hub.
