Launch into Work is helping employers across Australia find motivated, job-ready candidates, while making a real difference in people’s lives. By collaborating directly with employers, the program helps fill gaps between job seekers and employers with impressive results.
One recent project participant, a proud First Nations single mother of 2 young boys, faced challenges when finding work after leaving the justice system. The Launch into Work project had a positive impact on her as it opened opportunities that she wouldn’t have had otherwise. She was keen to start her career in the rail industry but realised the travel demands would be tough with young children. Thanks to the support of her mentors, she found secure long-term work with a major infrastructure company in Brisbane.
“Joel and Gerard (project mentors) stayed true to their word and supported me through the whole project and beyond. I now have a full-time job! They are amazing mentors, and I am forever grateful for all they have done.”
Through the Launch into Work project the participant received work readiness training, a full qualification (Certificate 2 in Rail Infrastructure) and wrap around mentoring support which extended into the first 6 months of employment.
During the project, the participant was also supported with well-being activities, catered lunches and work attire.
She’s now thriving in her role, learning new skills every day and was nominated for Employee of the Month.
This pilot program was a first for Joel, the Project Manager and mentor, who hadn’t worked with government before to co-design a pre-employment project. He praised the support from the Launch into Work team and is keen to build more partnerships that offer culturally safe and inclusive workplaces for First Nations people.
This project shows how collaboration between government, industry, and community can lead to meaningful employment outcomes. It’s not just about filling jobs – it’s about creating pathways and building inclusive workplaces.
Launch into Work offers a collaborative model for businesses and industries looking to address entry level skills shortages while fostering a more diverse and inclusive workforce.
