VET Information Standard

The VET Information Standard is a national framework for the collection and reporting of information on vocational education and training (VET) provider activity in Australia.

On this page:

The VET Information Standard outlines the elements RTOs are required to provide based on the delivery of VET training students. This includes:

  • replacing the current AVETMISS for VET Providers (release 8.1) data standard
  • moving away from static state reporting every 12 months towards an event-based model that provides richer insights into the student learning journey more frequently
  • supporting faster publication of insights for consumers of NCVER products
  • driving more responsive government policy to meet the evolving needs of the VET sector.

The VET Information Standard will be used by RTOs to drive the data they collect. It will more clearly define:

  • all elements that need to be captured
  • the business rules governing each data field and data grouping and outline what action is required to address data accuracy or completeness
  • the status of student enrolment activities
  • the processes RTOs will follow to streamline their data reporting obligations.

Together these changes will provide greater insight into the path taken by VET students and reduce administrative burden associated with VET data reporting.

The new standard is currently in its final refinement stage, after which approval will be sought from Skills Ministers. It is expected to be released publicly in July 2026, alongside supporting materials and guidance to assist all sector stakeholders with implementation.
