The Hon Minister Giles MP, Minister for Skills and Training, has approved the appointment of the Institute of Surveyors New South Wales (ISNSW) as the new assessing authority for the Surveyor occupation (ANZSCO 232212).
ISNSW cannot begin processing skills assessments yet. They must first be officially listed by the Department of Home Affairs in a legislative instrument under the Migration Regulations 1994. The timeframe is not yet confirmed.
Why this change is happening
On Thursday 21 August 2025, the Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA), which previously assessed skills for the Surveyor occupation, went into liquidation. This meant they stopped accepting applications immediately.
What happens next
Once ISNSW is officially listed in the legislative instrument, they will be able to start processing skills assessments. The update will be published on the Federal Register of Legislation website.
The department will provide further updates once the changes are in place and ISNSW is ready to begin assessments.
