Our Program

As a STEM graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your degree in new and diverse ways across different STEM areas, join a collaborative cohort, and take part in a range of networking opportunities.

STEM roles may vary but you may get the opportunity to work alongside and policy teams to:

  • apply evidence and data thinking to complex problems
  • design and test practical solutions that improve policy and program outcomes
  • help build a future ready, people centred solutions.

You’ll gain exposure to multiple teams and projects, supported by structured learning, mentoring and on the job experience.

What our STEM graduates do

Being open to how you use your degree is key. You could find yourself working in technology and programming, cyber security or research and analytics.

Some graduates may work in a data-focused area where there are plenty of opportunities to apply statistical methods and STEM informed approaches including statistical thinking and analytical techniques. Opportunities may also be available in our digital and technology areas, working on projects that deliver new business systems or supporting ICT platforms and services across the department.

“I did a bachelor's degree in mathematics majoring in statistics. Part of my graduate year, I finished working on a longer term project which I was really fortunate to be put on. The project was a coding project analysing free-text variables to determine which accredited certificates and diplomas people were commencing in. I had been working on this coding and analytical paper task for about five months, and I’m really pleased with the results where it was published.” Alyssa, 2025 STEM graduate

STEM graduates also get the opportunity to participate in a number of networking opportunities with other STEM graduates in the Australian Public Service.
